Let’s be honest: I love food. All kinds of food! Growing up in France I was lucky enough to have parents that shared with me their taste for fresh products and healthy food. Cooking with my mother and sisters or going to the farmers’ market was a weekly routine.
Now in Canada for almost 12 years I still love cooking and eating good food. Coincidentally, my wife’s father used to own a French restaurant in Vancouver on Robson Street! So I guess it occurred naturally to me that as a commercial photographer I would have a great interest in photographing food and the talented (and hard-working!) people that prepare it.
I recently had the opportunity to shoot 3 beautiful restaurants for Edmonton Chefs, the Edmonton branch of the Canadian Culinary Federation. What a treat! The images are for the Edmonton Chefs’ new website and the focus was on the activity in the kitchen. And activity there was! Shooting in a restaurant’s kitchen can be quite challenging as the space is often limited and dodging plates or waiters/waitresses is a sport on its own!
